From The International Literacy Association
"The Assessment and Evaluation Standard recognizes the need to prepare teachers for using a variety of assessment tools and practices to plan and evaluate effective reading and writing instruction. The elements featured in this standard relate to the systematic monitoring of student performance at individual, classroom, school, and system wide levels. Teacher educators who specialize in literacy play a critical role in preparing teachers for multifaceted assessment responsibilities." (ILA)
Writing Notebook
There are so many forms of assessment beyond quizzes and tests. The writing notebook showcases three examples of writing exercises designed to reinforce mathematics skills in a high school geometry class. Each writing exercise has a two point rubric included at the bottom of the assignment. This low stakes assessment is an opportunity for students to showcase their individual understanding of the content without the pressure of answering aloud in front of their peers.
